‘Women had been respected during the period 1890-1918’ how far do you really agree

Relatively women were respected during the period 1890-1918 as maintained source A which claims that males are ‘sometimes rivals for the same jobs women wanted to do’. This shows that more women were becoming more in a position to start working beyond the home and at the same standard as men, we know this is correct because while the men had been sent off to battle in the battle there was a shortage of men therefore the authorities turned to girls to solve the problem, meaning females were getting respect. Supply D further backs up that ladies were respected during this time period. The source shows a woman transporting a cover, working to develop weapons after the munitions problems of 1915. The source as well suggests that ladies were prioritising the conflict effort over campaigning intended for the election, this is demonstrated by the quote, ‘what’s all this cackle about votes? ‘ I don’t know- or perhaps care, our company is too active now’ this may have triggered the suffrage women to gain respect as even though they will felt incredibly strongly of the right for the vote they still place the country first, some argue that this is why the women were finally given the vote after the war like a reward for all of their efforts. Added to this source B further more backs up that ladies were highly regarded during this time period as one of the items the women had been campaigning pertaining to were the laws for the children shown simply by ‘ the laws about divorce, kids and many other problems are all unfair to women’, this was respected by many in society while bringing up children was a very important role during this time period.

Even so there are some constraints to the value during this time period, for example resource C, indicating that virtually any woman with a different thoughts and opinions to males is unappealing, unladylike and crazed, this really is shown by women inside the picture using ties and waving umbrellas in the air. And the quotation phoning the victims ‘sly’. The quotation ‘the house that man built’ further reveals disrespect as it suggests that woman should have no declare in the house of parliament plus the laws that are being passed. Second of all source Electronic is a constraint to the quotation ‘ girls were highly regarded during the period 1890-1918’ since it tells of the terrible working conditions that the women were made to work long hours although breathing ‘poisonous varnish’ leaving them ‘unconscious’ we know this is true as the munissionets had been nicknamed canaries due to each of the dangerous chemical substances turning all their skin yellow-colored, we as well know that situations were not safe for people to get working in because of the huge exploding market in Silvertown resulting in a large number of deaths. We all also understand that the women weren’t respected during this time period as the suffragettes were arrested and force provided on a large number of occasions on top of this they were certainly not given the vote till 1918 along with many other people in society.

In conclusion I believe the women were not well known during this time period due to the awful conditions they were working in as well as the way the ladies were being portrayed in promozione. I believe the women were only respected at this point when the region was in anxious need of help during the sac crisis the moment there were not enough men still left to fix the national catastrophe.
