Motif Development in “The Moths” by Helena Maria Viramontes When you are internally consumed by animosity, they become separated and it takes an extreme function such as a superb loss to regain inner peace. A new teen in the story “The Moths” may be the outcast in her family. She isn’t girly or dainty such as the rest of her sisters. The narrator generally feels only, even in church.

The sole person that can make her feel safe is her grandmother. At first the young teen represents immaturity. Hitting her sisters having a brick when she gets angry reveals how strong her bitterness is and how the way she deals with it is immature.

She resents the very fact that the girl with different and her siblings make fun of her. It is noticeable that the girl isolates her self by her quick family since she constantly stays with her grandmother. The author conveys the motif by exhibiting how the young teen feels the exact opposite with her grandma to the way she feels around her family.

The girl connects with her granny. The grandma represents superb loss. Your woman represents superb loss because the grandma was the only individual that gave her a sense of hope. The grandma must expire so the girl can let proceed of her resentment and rebirth her new receiving self. When the girl says her grandmother watching her makes her feel “how god should really make you feel”, she is implying that god doesn’t provide her that safe, cozy welcoming feeling.

The author is trying to show someone here that she detects god through her grandmother. God isn’t found in only a church for everybody, he can be seen in other places too. God can be found wherever one encounters his ease and comfort.

The extreme event in the text was not only losing her grandmother although also finally feeling secure and reassured directly from our god after the girl was removed. The way the young girl converted from getting immature to using to face loss of life and being a mature care-giver relates to the way in which her granny transformed from death to afterlife. If the moths leave the grandmothers body, it does not only represents the grandma being put out of her misery although also the girl’s resentments being lifted. When her grandmother goes, the teen detects inner serenity in her self.

The teen then really wants to reconnect with her mother. She will no longer feels like a great outcast. Rather she wants for her mom-to-be with her. It is important to pay attention to the theme in the text because it reveals what the personality had to move through in order to obtain happiness. The author was looking to get across the only way the girl can let go of almost all her animosity was in the event she dropped the thing that condensed it all up for her, her whole life.

By simply losing her grandmother the girl found very little.
