Data have helped me to along with love, no question. I notice something new, using a chord transform that melts my courage, and before I know this I’m looking for someone. (169)

Music prompts Deceive to isolate himself, keep an unrealistic view of men and women and sabotage his human relationships. Rob allows himself to get overcome with a sense when listening to a song pertaining to that feeling. Lots of the songs this individual mentions while his favorites or with significant that means, relate to Rob’s life for the reason that they have a lot to do with solitude. One tune in particular that Rob wants to serve as his eulogy, “Many Rivers to Cross, ” by Jimmy Cliff touches upon areas of his lifestyle, such as isolation, abandonment and anger.

The title, which is repeated through the entire song, corelates strongly to Rob due to the fact that it contains the term “cross” in it. Having just split up with his partner, coming to grips with his fear of commitment and finding unhappiness with his career, Rob has just crossed a large number of boundaries in his life. This individual has used on a sense of despression symptoms, which leads him to use anger constantly. The word “cross” in the title can also correspond with Rob’s anger. He is regularly “cross” with his coworkers:

If I need to listen to another word of his ineffective, pathetic, meaningless babble inside my entire life I will kill him. When I let him go My spouse and i am trembling with anger. (56)

When on the topic of Ian, the person Laura kept him pertaining to, Rob should go of on a tangent about how precisely he “never liked him then, and [he] *censored*ing hate[s] him now” (70). Rob provides trouble controlling his temper and is quickly impelled into a fit of rage. In the funeral, whilst speaking to Liz, he gets all worked up and “suddenly, [he’s] flaming and [he] [doesn’t] learn how to calm down” (244). The term “cross” identifies Rob quite nicely because he always seems to get someone to become angry with. Rob’s stress is obviously caused by isolation and disappointment with the way his your life has been found.

Rob clearly seems he is fighting life by itself. He seems he has no one to exhibit his feelings to because no one recognizes him:

I can’t speak to Laura because the lady lives with somebody else and she phone calls from phone boxes and she pretends she won’t, and I can’t speak to Liz because the lady knows about the amount of money and the abortion and myself seeing somebody else, and I won’t be able to speak to Craig and Dick because they are Craig and Dick, and I can’t speak to my friends because I actually don’t speak to my friends, and I can’t speak now because Laura’s dad has perished, and I only have to take it because normally I am a bad guy¦ (244-245)

Rob’s loneliness is accentuated by the burial where anything, particularly the aloneness of a coffin, relates to death. As Cliff sings, “And this solitude won’t keep me only, it’s this sort of a drag to be in your own”. These types of lyrics sound as if they will came straight out of Rob’s mouth. He are not able to escape the lonesomeness he could be feeling because he has no person to turn to. Deceive, after a lot of unhappiness, is merely about willing to give up on looking for contentment mainly because “unhappiness genuinely meant some thing back then. At this point it’s only a drag” (4). Rob has come to the conclusion that discontent is usually something this individual just must deal with, mainly because no matter what this individual has it will certainly not be enough. The complete atmosphere of the song can be one of depression, which is clearly the aura Rob emits. Rob worries he will be lonely his whole life. inch[He] saw, initially, how scared [he is] of declining, and of other people dying¦ it includes prevented [him] from sticking with a marriage, because should you stick with a relationship, as well as your life turns into dependent on that person’s your life, and then they die¦ well, you’re up the creek¦” (247). Take advantage of does not need to be left only, and that is exactly what Laura has done.

The original source of Rob’s anger and loneliness can be Laura’s departure. The lyrics, “My baby remaining, and the lady wouldn’t say why, now all I do is cry¦” is reminiscent of Laura. While strong while Rob attempts to be, “to [his] intense irritation and embarrassment, [he’s] in tears, and the feel-nothing world [he’s] been living set for the past few times has vanished’ (60). At this point Rob acknowledges his eliminate and knows he are not able to go on with no Laura in the life because she was your one person he could count on and speak to. With Laura gone, Deceive resorts to a false comfort and ease, his music.

Deceive is so passionate about music because it is the one stable thing in his life. There is no-one to take music away from him and it keeps him going. Music is what he uses to begin conversations, earn a living, fill up his apartment and to motivate him. The lyrics, “It’s only my personal wind that will bring me alive” can be relevant to Rob’s music. The only thing that will keep him heading during rough times is his music, his “wind. ” Music is a protect commitment, which will never go out on him or pass away on him¦ music is definitely his Excessive Fidelity.
