Excerpt from Research Pitch:

Hooper’s wearing from the veil just reinforces this kind of notion. All of us are unclean and really should be aware of our condition. Hooper believed this kind of and says so on his deathbed if he tells those around him, “On every single visage a Black Veil! ” (Hawthorne 640) G. A. Santangelo believes that Hawthorne was concerned with a delusional condition of innocence in that no-one can be innocent in this world “because man provides a propensity pertaining to evil that musty be understood” (Santangelo 61). No one of this globe can be innocent and failing to recognize this “leads to a childish egotism and an unrealistic ethic which results in a sterile paganism” (61). Hooper makes a choice that isolates him however it is a choice that is “dedicated to a higher purpose” (66). From this sense, this individual “accepts the darkness, not in satisfaction, but of necessity” (66). This account is tragic, according to Santangelo for the reason that minister’s remoteness is “dedicated to a higher goal, and he willingly welcomes darkness certainly not in satisfaction, but of necessity” (66). Hooper’s “authentic self could possibly be established just in remoteness and in blackness and through loving service to humanity, not really in personal happiness” (66). Here we see that the veil becomes a mark that is not just a teaching tool yet also a sacrifice. Hooper are unable to live his life with out guilt or shame being aware of his human condition and is therefore required to expose that condition to his many other man.

“The Minister’s Dark-colored Veil” is known as a tale about the nature of man. Hopper becomes the freak of the story but he could be actually one which is more mindful of his human condition than anyone else he comes into exposure to. His veil becomes a sign of the goodness of The lord’s word plus the evil characteristics of gentleman. One may not be in accord with god and not be aware of one’s personal sinful characteristics. Hooper’s veil hides his sin via God and from other folks as well. He hopes that his veil will also function as a warning to others that may e keen to live a sinful existence and hide behind the facade of the happy smile. The minister is happy to go to his grave if perhaps he can demonstrate how important it can be for man to become aware about his nature and become correct with Our god in times of hardship and temptation.
