48-49). The main persona has a a sense of wanting to make an effort something new, anything refreshing and different just like the water. The difference involving the river as well as its surroundings contains a crucial relevance for the key characters advancement. The main character of the story is a woman with a day to day routine, consisting of operating and looking in the nature away from her office´s window. She wants to go lower and require a swim inside the river, but her fear holds her back.

The worry of being seen and what she may finds within the river. The narrator explains that “every day the lady looks out at the lake, and longs to go swimming in it” (p. 2 ll. 7-8).

Even though the lady tries to encourage herself to look swimming by simply reminding their self that “It´s a normal, all-natural act” (p. 2 m. 19), it includes not ended her via regretting, and going back to work again. The fear of not knowing exactly where she could possibly be swept to, and not staying strong enough, represents the main character as person. She questions her own strength, with a physical method but as well her personal strength, simply by not having to be able to carry out what she could really like. She decides to get involved the water and all of a sudden, her fear of what might eventually her is fully gone and “encouraged, she determines to go swimming upstream in terms of the connection behind the house” (p.

3 t. 60). The lady undergoes a development while she changes from staying afraid to get more confident about herself. The swan the girl meets is a symbol of the main figure.

The swan looks quiet and still “although, that underneath the surface it should surely be paddling” (p. 4 t. 2) just as the girl, who looks typical on the outside, this lady has a lot to have trouble with on the inside. The girl with confronted with the swan and “there´s no place for her to hide. ” (p. 4 t. 86) The lady now copes with her fear, as well as the stronger the lady gets, a lot more she desires to she really wants to swim.

She stops carrying about getting seen, and she dares to go swimming closely for the swan, despite the fact that “her nan used to let her know a swan could break a man´s arm with its wing” and she prevents worrying about “what it could do to her, straight down in the water” (p. 5 ll. 80-82).

When the swan is captured, she begins to “untwist the queue where the bird bound by itself in its struggle”, just like she overcame her fears and struggles and started to go swimming (p. six l. 152). The swan is finally free from it is captivity, and disappears along the river exactly where it by no means will be found again. The woman lets move of her anxiety, that disappears via her consciousness and she is going to never forget again. Like lots of people the girl in the story struggles to defeat her fear, which the lady in the end succeeds in overcoming.

The theme of fear in the story is illustrated in the way the main persona changes to certainly be a girl with low self-confidence, to becoming a strong and independent girl. Something that might be a part of her in anything she undergoes for the rest of her life.
