The Listeners “The Listeners” by Walt Del La Mare is known as a poem, which has an unexpected ending.

I will demonstrate how the poet creates mood and ambiance through imagery, alliteration, beat and vocally mimic eachother. I sensed this composition is very odd because it is ghostly and odd. “The Listeners” is about a “traveller” who have comes to an empty house inside the forest floor and maintains on knocking on the door asking ” I s there anyone there? ” but nobody answers and he is a few how puzzled. This poem is very spooky because of the dingdong used: “his horse inside the silence chomped the grasses”. The mod of the composition is very extreme and the depth is created by the imagery used by the poet. The ambiance in this poem is unusual but bold as there are always questions kept unanswered which the reader must try and workout.

The style in the poem is at narrative style because there are zero verses and reads such as a story. The rhythm is definitely 12 and 7 is better than in every 2 lines therefore there is a rhythm patterns meaning every second line rhymes. This poem is crafted narrative, meaning the reader observes the “Traveller” as if via afar.

This poem is full of great alliteration such as “forests ferny floor” the repitition is in the “F”. I think it is to make you notice that the forest id very soft and noiseless. Other good examples are “silence surged softly”. This is another good example of dingdong as it makes me think that the peace and quiet is surging back when the traveller is gone because there is no one left with your life.

My conclusion for “The Listeners” is the fact it is a good poem with great dingdong as it makes the poem a wee little more scary.
