1 . Africans were abducted and taken aboard ships to be transferred to various areas. From reading Equianos memoir I accumulated that the slaves were afraid. They had never seen white wines before, nor did communicate the language with their captors, thus they had no idea of their future. Equiano tells us the harsh conditions aboard the ship. The slaves had been shackled with each other. Equiano almost makes the target audience hear the clanking of the chains and the gasps intended for clean air. The ships had been grossly over crowded and the heat of the ship was almost unbearable. Many had been sick and undoubtedly terrified of what was to happen following. When they appeared to their vacation spot the slaves were auctioned off like they were cows. Mothers were separated from their children, partners from their spouses and siblings and brothers were almost all ripped apart from one another.

2 . When Equiano is first considered aboard the ship he could be terrified as they had hardly ever seen light men before and presumed that having been taken into a world of poor spirits. That shows just how different all their culture and belief system was. He was convinced which the whites had been going to eat him. Equiano was not familiar with horses and buildings with stories. This individual mentions several times about their very long hair, to ensure that must not have been completely a normalcy in his tradition, as with the horses and different building structures.

1 . Nelson found many diseases including smallpox, however the majority of the slaves had been infected with purulent opthalmia. This disease made their eyelids to swell and produce a discharge that they wasn’t able to even wipe away for the chains. Due to the various diseases and harsh living conditions many of the slaves died during the voyage-and were just tossed over table when they would. In this memoir Nelson says that 460 slaves left Brazil and 348 survived the transferring. In another consideration 572 Africans were measured and even though the exact number of Africans that have been on the ship to begin with had not been recorded, this individual believed that over seven hundred were on side in the beginning.

2 . Nelsons description of the conditions up to speed the servant ship was much more harsh that Equianos personal memoir. He told of the disease, the loathsome smell, shortage of food, plus the desperation the slaves showed for water. Nelson tells of the terrible living conditions, having less space plus the odors. His description of the poor slaves swatting in corners as well as the misery that was among them makes the reader practically sick it is so vivid. Equiano tells of the cruel living conditions and how terrified he was, but Nelson showed the true cruelty of what the persons did and set slaves through.
