Compare Oedipus Rex and Faustus as tragedies.  The two plays Oedipus Rex and Faustus are tragic plays. Both these styles the plays end with all the main figure losing their life, and actually even their afterlife. But as tragedies the two plays have some similarities and some distinctions. The characters themselves are different, and so they both desire different goals out of each their own lives. Oedipus Rex and Faustus are two tragedies that compare and compare in many ways.

Both the main character types of the performs Faustus and Oedipus Rex are very different from the other person.

Faustus, the key character in Faustus, is not really trying to preserve any civilizations like Oedipus is.  Faustus is really looking to make himself a better person by learning black magic. This individual wants to learn evil to generate himself better as a person. He indications his heart and soul over to the devil in exchange for twenty-four years of support by Mephistophilis. Greed may be the main reason to get the fall of Faustus.

This individual chose his own future; he knew that when he authorized that deal his spirit belonged to satan.

Oedipus alternatively, did not really have much of a choice in his fate. He was pretty much damned from the beginning. He was prophesized to get rid of his dad and marry his mother, so his father and mother tried to modify fate. But as the story goes, the prophecy came true. Almost all Oedipus wished to do was stop the plague via going through his city. Nonetheless it ended up that he was the cause, not the answer.  His everlasting was not were living out in terrible, but put in exiled from Thebes.

Oedipus did not choose his destiny as Faustus did. One of the similarities of the play is seen at the end of Oedipus Rex when the Chargos basically says that possibly the greatest of men can easily crumble to ruins; almost all humans will be subject to suffering and pain.
