Thomas Hardy was a 19th century novelist and a 20th 100 years poet. As being a novelist, he was last from the great Victorian novelists just like William Thackeray, Charlotte and Emily Bronte, Charles Dickens and George Eliot. Tess’ life is absolutely devoid of even a single instant of happiness.
